Get the camera out

Noticed about a week ago that the willow trees were starting to get their green on. All the other trees still look pretty lifeless. My forsythia has buds on them. My tulips and daffodils are out of the ground. Even the cherry tree has buds so I know that spring is coming soon. I went out today to take some pictures of the animal life. All I found were tree buds. I probably will not have goslings. I will not have ducklings until July or later. I will not have chicks unless I pull the incubator out of mothballs and get it set up. Not sure, I am willing to do that.

I love spring. It is my favorite season. I was born in the spring. Not that that has anything to do with it. I love spring because of new life, new babies in the fields, the green leaves on the trees is so fresh. The lawns even look nice in the spring. I love the forsythia in my front yard. It heralds spring with tiny yellow flowers along with the hyacinth, tulips, crocus, and daffodils, the earliest of spring. We have St. Patrick’s Day on March 17; we make the traditional corned beef and cabbage…love it. I am Irish anyway! I am also Scottish…..long story….for another time. Easter is in April, and taking pictures starts to be more in the front of my brain instead of on the back burner.

I mean, really, who doesn’t love pictures of new baby animals? I imagine ogres don’t, but we don’t have to worry about them unless we’re talking about my spouse, because Shrek is not real kids. Everyone starts being in happier moods too. Unless, from what I have read, you live in Seattle, Washington, where it rains a lot. Dark clouds make most people sad. Personally, I love the rain…not six of seven days a week, but I do love the rain, maybe because I live in such a dry area of the country. Middle of March is a little early to start seeing baby animals in the fields just yet. I know a rancher who plans the birth of all the lambs for early April. I know of other sheep ranchers that have their lambing earlier. I did notice that a Robin was in the backyard looking for worms, hopefully for a female on the nest. I noticed that the Robins had returned a couple of weeks ago. There is a pair of Mourning Doves in the pine tree next door, so babies will be coming along soon. My turtle is even laying eggs! They will not hatch for 70 to 130 days from now, depending on the ground temperature. Can’t wait!

In addition, of course, there is Daylight Savings Time…the Politian’s love it and the public hates it. It is so useless now that work is carried on 24/7 on a global scale. Can’t take pictures of that though, unless I take pictures of the different times as I change the clocks. Naa… Taking pictures of bare trees is less than thrilling though. Buds? Come on. Tree buds people. Though. I do love their horses. Bet they have babies in the barns by now. Without a job and any income right now, it is hard for me to ask the spouse to fill the gas tank, especially when gas is near $4 bucks a gallon. In addition, I hate asking for everything. I can’t just go traipsing around without a destination or reason can I? Well, I could but it would not be wise.

I do love my new cameras. Two years ago, I bought a Nikon D60. It is a point-and-shoot with the single reflex lens and you can add a bunch of different lenses. Last spring, I bought a Nikon D7000. The more I use the D7000, the more I love it. It is quick to respond to take a picture. The focusing on it is adjustable, you can take a broad view to focus or you can narrow it down to just one little spot you want to shoot. It takes HD movies, though I have not had time to try this function. I would love to have a motorhome where I could travel and take pictures when and where I wanted. It would have to be a pretty bit one though, or maybe two. The animals would need to come too.
